Syncrolite News : Power of Houston

This was the biggest event of the Millennium and the third and final of the series that began in 1997 and 1998. This event is the most complex technically of any lighting event ever attempted for many reasons, but as you view this on our show reel, remember the entire downtown area of the City of Houston is the palette. The equipment included:

100 – SS7K, SX7K, ST7K and SX3K Skylights placed atop 12 downtown buildings
with helicopters
16 – Yag Lasers provided by Laser Media and Laser Rentals
4000 – Pars, High End equipment, color changers and other conventional instruments
7000 – Pyro shots in digital launchers from PPA of St. Louis etc.

All this was programmed on the Whole Hog console by Troy Eckerman and executed perfectly to a 35-minute simulcast soundtrack. Several million Houstonians watched the amazing display from their cars while others watched at home. This event has won the Mega Event of the Year Award from the Themed Entertainment Association and is a milestone in entertainment technology. Over the downtown area of Houston miles of DMX cable, feeder, 8/5 and teleco lines for SMPTE were strung. Luckily the event was sponsored by Reliant Energy (the local electric utility) who made sure we all had the right power in each building top and base location. Syncrolite has been 100% functional in all units for the past three years of this spectacular and even weathered Hurricane George in 1998. Through all three years, our major vendor/provider associates in this mega-spectacular have been contractor LD Systems of Houston with Laser Media, Laser Rentals & PPA pyro - a truly amazing group a professionals.
